Credit Cards: Where we go wrong
March 29, 2007
Just where do we go wrong with the responsibilities of credit card ownership? The answer is quite simple my friends: We exist; therefore, we must buy!
So where do most of us go wrong when it comes to the responsibilities of credit card ownership? There is but one word I think describes it all best, impatience. We as human beings cannot wait for a thing. Have you ever heard the phrase, worth the wait? Well that has been overshadowed by the new phrase, worth the interest rate. We want it all and we want it now. Not tomorrow… not sometime today… not within the hour… BUT Right NOW!
Men and woman buy compulsively in order to elevate their social status and impress friends. Apart from this impulsive impatience, there is but two separate sets of definitions that best describe men and women’s theory to achieving status. For males, status is simply the quantity of useless stuff that they can possibly accumulate within a lifetime. While for women, status is the quality of every painstakingly chosen items they can neatly coordinate (coordinate being a key word here) with that of the rest of their stuff. Simple, yet rather elegant!
My favorite male stupidity is when they buy something like a snowmobile in the middle of summer, dump the cost onto a credit card with a 20 percent interest rate, then showcases it around town in the back of our truck until winter, when he feels it necessary to put it in our garage to keep the snow from deteriorating the leather seats! How Stupid… I will be the first one in the bankruptcy hearing hollering out, “Give him the chair! Put this stupid fool out of his misery…”
My favorite female stupidity is the lifelong goal to outdo the previous purchase of every friend and co-worker who has ever stepped across the borders of the box they live within. This is where manufacturers have a chokehold on them. They make about fifteen versions of the same thing, each with a substantially elevated appeal and cost. They know that ultimately within the given lifespan of a typical female, they will have gone through almost every version of their product in the attempts to outdo the next. Not many can afford this constant battle and rely heavily on their plastic buddy at the battlefront.

But atlas, your little buddy will eventually fail you, and leave you penniless.
