Preseason Favorites: The many MLB Awards

March 30, 2007

After every season, Major League Baseball gives out awards based on performance on the field. Although this is not what most players are after, it is always nice for us fans to speculate on who is going to have a big season. While this is hard to do because you never know what will happen, it is something that fans and media have a lot of fun with.

The MVP Award is quite possibly the most coveted in the each league. This award goes to the best player based on individual performance. It appears that Albert Pujols has the inside track in the National League. He is one of the most dominant players in the game, and this will be sure to show through once again. If Pujols stays healthy he will be a frontrunner for NL MVP.

On the American League side, look for Paul Konerko and Joe Mauer to have great seasons once again in 2007. If these guys did not impress last year, they are sure to open some eyes this season.

For pitchers, the Cy Young Award is the one that they are all after. National League favorites include Chris Carpenter and Chris Young. American League favorites include Johan Santana and C.C. Sabathia.

One of the most fun parts of each season is watching players separate themselves from the pack. Even though the guys listed above are expected to perform with a high level of success, many more are sure to make a name for themselves once the season heats up.
