One Week into the MLB Season
April 9, 2007
Although the MLB season is only a week old, there have already been quite a few surprises. It may be a bit early to jump the gun and start making World Series predictions, but a good start is something that every team is interested in.
The American League East is always one of the most talked about divisions, and this year is going to be more of the same. Through the first week, the Toronto Blue Jays are atop the division with a 3-2 record. They are followed by the Boston Red Sox at 3-3. The New York Yankees are off to a slow start at 2-3.
In the American League Central the Minnesota Twins got out of the gate fast with a 4-1 record. The Cleveland Indians are behind them at 2-1. Due to cold weather and severe snow the Indians did not have the chance to play their series against the Seattle Mariners over the weekend.
The Los Angeles Angels, with a record of 5-1, are leading the American League West. The Mariners are in second at 2-1.
In the National League there have been a few early surprises. The Central Division shows both the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates at 4-2. These two teams were picked to finish near the bottom.
The East Division is shaping up to be strong. The Atlanta Braves have started out with a 5-1 record, and are followed closely behind by the Florida Marlins and New York Mets; both at 4-2.
Rounding things out in the National League is the always competitive West Division. The Arizona Diamondbacks are on top with a 5-2 record. At 4-2, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres are sharing second place.
These standings are bound to change many times this season. But for right now, this is the way that things are shaking down after one week!
