First No Hitter of the Year

April 19, 2007

Every year, there are a few pitchers who are lucky enough to come close to throwing a no hitter. But even then, only a select few have been able to pull off this feat. While fans usually have to wait a few months for the first no hitter to come around, this year is a bit different.

Chicago White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle threw the first no hitter of the year in a 6-0 romp of the Texas Rangers. Buehrle faced the minimum 27 batters in the win. He only walked one batter, but picked him off of first base only minutes later.

This was the first no hitter for a White Sox pitcher since 1991. And the way that Buehrle accomplished this was quite amazing. He worked quickly for all nine innings, and really showed an heir of confidence that many can never find on the mound.

In addition to his poise on the mound, it appeared that Buehrle never tightened up while in the dugout either. He was seen joking around with his teammates as the game went out, and never really separated himself from the rest of the group. This is something that is quite uncommon among pitchers who are closing in on a no-no.

In the ninth inning Buehrle started out strong by striking out the first two batters. From there he forced a ground ball to third base to get out number three.

This was surely the thrill of a lifetime for Buehrle as well as the White Sox organization and their fans.
