National League Update

Although the American League seems to get the most attention, there are many National League teams that are performing quite well through the first month or so of the season. Taking a closer look at the National League to this point, it is safe to say that there are several teams that will be solid from start to finish.

Starting in the East, the New York Mets are off to a hot start. They are sitting at 12-6, and their pitching staff has settled in nicely despite some early season concerns. But even though they have one of the best records in baseball, they are only a ½ game in front of the Atlanta Braves.

Moving to the Central division, it is a bit more difficult to see which teams are doing what. The Milwaukee Brewers are 12-7 and currently in first place. They are followed by the Houston Astros at 9-9, the Cincinnati Reds at 9-10, and the St. Louis Cardinals at 8-10. If there is one division that is going to be crowded from top to bottom, this may be it.

Finally, the Los Angeles Dodgers are dominating the West division early on. At 13-6 they have the best record in the National League, and are playing great all around baseball. But right behind them are the San Diego Padres at 11-8, and the San Francisco Giants at 9-8.

At this point it is impossible to say which league the World Series Champion will come from. But with that in mind, there is no denying the fact that the National League demands some respect in 2007.
