Interview with Tub Ring keyboardist Rob Kleiner (Part 2)

Upon talking with Rob, I could tell he was very excited about their newest album, The Great Filter, due out this coming May 1st. I asked him to describe the album in his own words and he said, “Maybe less spazy, but you can still tell it is us.”

The 14 songs out of the entire 30 that were written for the new album were very carefully chosen. Trey Spruance of Mr. Bungle has been quoted by their new label, End Records, “We want to make a big impression… our music will become exposed to a whole new audience;” referring to the new label and boost of audience it should provide.

Tub Ring will be on tour through the summer and fall. “Make sure that you make it out,” says Rob. While us fans have our eyes set on the upcoming tours in Canada and the United States, Rob has his gaze set towards a European and Japanese tour which he would like to see fall into place by the end of this year.

Past this next year and entering beyond the decade that most bands survive, Rob hopes that he is “flying around in a private jet… writing for TV soundtracks and commercials… (and that) people haven’t thrown out our CD’s.”

I finished the interview by asking Rob how he would hope his influence over music would affect the world in a positive way. “Hopefully I think listening to music is like art… you can be having a bad day and art takes you away from that… I hope we make a difference in somebody’s life.”

Well, I think you have a very refreshing and humble outlook to your success Rob and are well on your way to making a difference in much more than just one persons life.

Pick up their new album The Great Filter in stores now and don’t forget to visit their website (www.tubring.com) for updates, photos, MP3 downloads and touring dates.
