Moving in on the Conference Finals

May 16, 2007

The NBA Conference Finals are right around the corner. But before the final four are in place, there is still a bit of work to be done in three of the semifinals series.

The Utah Jazz is the only team that has secured a spot in the finals. With a 4-1 series win over the Golden State Warriors, the Jazz will be heading to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since Stockton and Malone took them there.

On the other side of the Western Conference, the San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns are locked up at 2 games apiece. Tempers are flaring in this series, and it is up in the air at this point. Obviously, whichever team takes game 5 tonight has the inside track to the conference finals.

In the Eastern Conference, the Cleveland Cavaliers lead the New Jersey Nets 3-1. They are attempting to close the Nets out tonight at home.

The other battle in the east is really heating up. After the Detroit Pistons jumped out to a 3-0 series lead, the Chicago Bulls came back to win the last two. Now that they are headed back to Chicago for game 6, the Bulls are confident that they can force a series deciding final game.

Within a few days the conference finals will be set. From there, it will be interesting to see what teams seize the opportunity and fights tooth and nail for a spot on the big stage.
