Detroit over Cleveland in Game One
May 22, 2007
The Detroit Pistons defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 79-76 in game one of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals. Most people felt that the Pistons would handle the Cavs with no problems, but this was not the case. In fact, it was a nip and tuck game throughout. But like usual, the Pistons playoff experience and depth prevailed.
The key to victory for the Pistons was their stellar defense again LeBron James. He was held to 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists. While this may sound like an all around solid game, for a player of James’ caliber it is not going to get the job done in the playoffs. And things are not going to get any easier on him. Tayshaun Prince is one of the best defenders in the league, and when it comes to guarding James, he does a great job.
Richard Hamilton led the Pistons with 24 points. Rasheed Wallace controlled the glass by pulling down 12 rebounds, and Prince dished out 9 assists. It is this type of balance that gives the Pistons all that they need to win the series.
It will be interesting to see if the Cavs can recover from this loss. Late in the second half it appeared that they had a real chance of stealing game one in Detroit. Will the disappointment of this loss hold them back for the rest of the series? We’ll find out Thursday night in Detroit!
