Roger Rocked…Again
June 28, 2007
The New York Yankees were hoping that the addition of Roger Clemens to their pitching staff would give them a boost in the standings. After all, he is one of the best pitchers of all time. But instead of the Rocket giving them a boost, he has instead been rocked time after time. Since joining the Yankees, the 44 year old Clemens has an overall record of 1-3. And with his team sliding in the standings once again, this does not bode well for his future. There is no way that the team would part ways with Clemens, especially because he is earning millions of dollars this year, but they do need to consider what they need to do in order to get back into the postseason hunt.
Last night, Clemens struggled once again as the Yankees were shut out by the Baltimore Orioles, 4-0. He was hoping that this was going to be the big night when he recorded his 350th victory in the Major Leagues. Instead, it was nothing more than another disappointment.
Clemens looked good through the first five innings; he did not allow a single run. But in the sixth, things fell apart for him. He gave up the only four runs of the game, and with no run support, that was that.
Perhaps the biggest disappointment for Clemens was the fact that he did not record a single strikeout. This is not to say that his power is gone, but it is surely on its way out the door.
Will Clemens be able to regroup and help the Yanks get into the playoffs? Only time will tell. But as of right now, things are not looking good for one of the most storied players and teams of all time.
