The 2007 NBA Draft
June 29, 2007
The NBA Draft is when every team tries to grab a player (or more) to sure up their roster for the next season. Of course, some teams are more desperate than others. After all, it does not appear that the San Antonio Spurs need much of anything. For this reason, they didn’t make any moves that were out of the ordinary. But on the other side of things, teams such as the Portland Trail Blazers needed to upgrade in many areas. And they did just that by adding several key players through the draft as well as draft day trades.
As expected, the Trail Blazers selected Ohio State big man Greg Oden with the number one overall pick. Although he may not be the most talented player in the draft, passing up on a legitimate center is not something that most teams would do.
After the Trail Blazers, the Seattle Supersonics snatched up Kevin Durant. Most experts feel that he was the most talented player available, but as mentioned above, sometimes this does not matter if there is a solid center in the draft. It is safe to say that the Supersonics did just fine with this pick.
Rounding out the top five picks were: Al Horford to the Atlanta Hawks, Mike Conley Jr. to the Memphis Grizzlies, and Jeff Green to the Boston Celtics. The Celtics ended up dealing Green to the Supersonics in a deal that included Ray Allen heading to Boston.
There were not too many big surprises on NBA Draft Day 2007. The real fun will start when these guys get to take the floor for the first time. This is when we will see which teams made the right decisions.

Man, I cannot wait for the season to start! It is going to be so fun to watch this class play; although I am pissed that the 2 best players went to the 2 worst NBA markets… That means I won’t get to see them play very often…
