Hargrove Resigns

July 2, 2007

As you may know, the Seattle Mariners are one of the hottest teams in Major League Baseball. They have won eight straight games, and are playing top notch baseball. But if they are going to continue this hot streak, they are going to have to do it without manager Mike Hargrove. After being a part of the league since 1972, Hargrove has finally called it quits at the age of 57. This was quite a surprise considering the fact that the Mariners were doing so well under his guidance.

So what was the reason for his departure? Although there are many theories, Hargrove simply said that it was time to move on. He also touched on the fact that he no longer had the desire necessary to dedicate each and every day to the game.

At this point, we can only go by the words that are coming out of his mouth. But of course, many feel that he is leaving for other reasons. For instance, it has been well documented that Hargrove and star player Ichiro Suzuki have never seen eye to eye. And with Suzuki closing in on the end of his contract, he may have pressured the higher ups to get rid of Hargrove before he bolts for another city.

Of course, Hargrove’s contract also ran out this fall. He may have been looking for a way out of town before the team put him on the street.

It will be interesting to see if the Mariners can continue their good play under new manager John McLaren.

Although we may never know why Hargrove left town, one thing is for sure. He seems happy with the decision that he made.
