Although Tiger Woods put out a commendable effort in this year’s U.S. Open, he came up a bit short on the final day. Of course, any time that Tiger loses something had to be wrong, right? While we did not know it at the time, he was actually dealing with a problem that would affect even the best of us.

Tiger recently revealed that while he was playing the U.S. Open, his wife, Elin, was in the hospital due to complications as she was getting ready to give birth. Even though the problems were not life threatening, you can only imagine how this weighed on Tiger’s mind.

Tiger said, “It wasn’t life-threatening or anything, but she just had a few problems and had to be admitted.” He added, “It wasn’t easy. It was not easy, because I wanted to be there. And the doctor and Elin said, ‘There’s nothing you can do. So go out there and just get a “W.”‘

Did this have anything to do with Tiger losing the Open? Maybe, maybe not. Nobody will ever be able to say for sure if this messed with his psyche, but it is safe to say that it put him in a very tough situation. After all, he had to decide whether to continue playing or be by his wife’s side. Not to mention the fact that he knew he would catch a lot of heat regardless of what decision he made.

All in all, Tiger did a great job for four days despite the personal problems that he was having. And this is something that he should be praised for.
