Are the Yankees making their Move?
July 23, 2007
If you are a Boston Red Sox fan you should probably start to worry. The lights that you see in the rearview mirror are those of a New York Yankees team closing in on first place. Although the Red Sox still have a 7.5 game lead over the Yanks, this is not nearly as big a cushion as it once was.
It is quite simple to see why the gap between first and second has narrowed over the past couple of weeks. Over their last 10 games, the Red Sox have won five and lost five. On the other side of things, the Yankees are 8-2 during the same stretch. This has allowed them to pick up three games in the standings.
The question is do the Yankees have enough fire power to keep this up? With a four game series coming up against the lowly Kansas City Royals, it is safe to say that they are in position to gain even more ground. This is especially true considering the fact that the Red Sox will be facing off against the Cleveland Indians for the next four games. If you are not familiar with the Indians, they are only one game back in the American League Central Division, and are tied for the second most wins in all of baseball.
There is no denying that this is going to be one of the best divisional races as the season winds down. The once large lead by the Red Sox is slipping. Will they be able to put a stop to this?
