College Football: Not just Saturdays
August 6, 2007
With college football season less than a month away, millions of fans are looking forward to spending their Saturday at the stadium or watching several games on television. But of course, the days of college football only being played on Saturday are long gone. And even though some people like this, there is a huge influx of fans and others who feel that this is taking away from the game.
Saturday is still the most popular day for college football. And it is safe to say that this will always be the case. But in addition, games are also being played throughout the week as well. The most popular days are Wednesday and Thursday, but over the past few seasons more and more Friday night games have been scheduled as well. So why don’t fans like this? For one, it screws them up during the work week. Not only do a lot of fans have to miss games for work, but many others have found that they cannot stay up late enough if they want to be in good shape the next morning. And on top of this, some people simply feel that college football on Saturday is a tradition; one that should not be broken.
It will be interesting to see what direction this trend moves in during the next few seasons. As long as there is television revenue to be had, it is hard to imagine that college football games will not be played during the week in the years to come.
