American League Roundup
August 10, 2007
Now that the All-Star break is long gone, the MLB is really starting to heat up. Each team has just about 50 games left on their schedule, and what they do during those games will determine their post season fate.
The American League East Division race is the one that most people have their eyes on. The Boston Red Sox are holding onto a six game lead over the New York Yankees. But like always, the Yanks are surging forward with a late season run.
Moving to the Central Division, there is a race that has been nip and tuck all season. The Cleveland Indians lead the Detroit Tigers by 1.5 games. With both teams playing solid ball, it is safe to say that this division will not be decided until later on in September.
Finally, the Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners are in the middle of an intense showdown for the West Division title. The Mariners are 2.5 games out of first, but after winning 7 of their last 10, they are one of the hottest teams in baseball.
All three divisions are far from being decided. With that being said, keep in mind that the wildcard race is going to be just as interesting. Whichever teams do not win their division may still be able to creep into the playoffs with a wildcard berth.
Overall, keep an eye on the American League standings as the season begins to head down the final stretch.
