O RL’YEH?So here’s where you decide whether this is worth waiting for or a big let-down. This is where I present, for your delight and amusement, yet another Making Light thread: “The Dream-Quest of Pooh Corner.”

“Oh, bother,” said Pooh, as the unclean emanations of the Old Ones manifested as squamous and rugose tentacles that were of no earthly color.

And Piglet had, all unknowing, inherited the very house of the accurséd Trespassers William, whose very name must not be spoken; indeed it had been partly obliterated from the sign that bore it, to prevent some innocent from reading it aloud and going mad.

The wind was heavy on the wooded hill,
all creatures waited for the hungry bear
fearing the Great Old Beings darkest will.
Yet all the time, the Pooh without a care
ignored the squamous terrors and the fear
that caused even Eeyore to cast a shoe.
We find that now all nature is laid bare
still nothing can annoy the happy Pooh!

Because horrific tales of the violent triumphs of grotesque beings from planes beyond our mortal ken deserve a thorough pastiching. With children’s tales suitable to plush toys.

Plush Cthulhu runs amuck!

[The links in that sentence, in order of appearance, lead to the “The Shadow Over Who-Ville,” “The Great Old Pumpkin,” “Call of Cthulhu Bear,” and Tom Smith’s “House At Cthulhu Corner.”]

Of course, who doesn’t love a Cthulhu plushie? Mad propz to Jon Hansen (follow the link, people!) for today’s lovely illustration of bloodless, velveteen mayhem.

All links and quotes herein via the Making Light thread cited above, which will eat your entire productive day and send you to all the best bits of the Intertubes. Go to it.

(Yer welcome.)

  1. I have a plushie cthulhu. :)

When I first brought it home my daughter began playing with it in some form of tea party setting.

My dad asked what in the world was she playing with. I made him snort what he was drinking when I said the lord of eternal darkness and eater of soul. Perhaps not accurate but still . :)
