The NFL Opener
September 7, 2007
NFL fans waited all summer for the Indianapolis Colts to host the New Orleans Saints in the first game of the season. Unfortunately, it was not much of a game. Even though the Colts got off to a slow start in the first half, they turned up the jets in quarters three and four to secure a 41-10 victory.
At halftime it appeared that the game was going to be nip and tuck throughout. The score was knotted at 10, and both teams were playing excellent defense. But as you probably saw, the Colts outscored their opposition 31-0 in the second half.
Colts quarterback Peyton Manning led the way as usual for the defending Super Bowl Champs. He finished 18 of 30 for 288 yards. On top of this he managed to account for three touchdowns through the air as well.
Running back Joseph Addai paced the ground game by rushing for 118 yards on 23 carries while also scoring a touchdown. His play was crucial in keeping the Saints defense off guard in the second half.
For the Saints, it is time to regroup. Despite an above average performance in the first half, they put out little effort after the break. They face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 16; a game that they must win if they are going to avoid a horrendous start to the 2007 season.
