Kevin Everett: Holding out Hope
Buffalo Bills tight end Kevin Everett suffered a catastrophic neck injury in Sunday’s loss to the Denver Broncos. But despite a bad initial outlook, things are looking a bit better for Everett. Of course, he is far from being out of the woods.
Shortly after being carried off the field on a stretcher, emergency surgery was performed on Everett at a nearby hospital. In a recent press conference, one of the doctors who performed surgery said that they were very pleased with the progress he was making.
In fact, doctor Kevin Gibbons is hopeful that Everett will walk again. Gibbons said, “I would not bet against it, but he has a long way to go. He understands what happened to him, he realizes in some part what lies ahead.”
To help Everett’s situation, doctors repaired a break between the third and fourth vertebrae. Additionally, they also did a lot of work to take pressure off of the spinal cord.
Everett has shown some movement of both his upper and lower extremities. This is not to say that he will ever be able to walk again, but doctors are much more hopeful now than they were shortly after surgery.
Although Everett still has a lot of work to do, he has shown his toughness over the years. If anybody can overcome this injury, it is him.
