2009 Camaro Vs. Mustang
Okay, so they do not have them out yet, but we can certainly stomp on those digital pedals of common sense and see who is going to be top dog at the stoplight in the coming year.
Lets first do a showdown of looks…
As these two bad boys pull up to the stoplight and Jessica Alba is on the corner thumbing a ride (it could happen)… which do you suppose she will get into?
Well, looking them over good, I would have to say that the Camaro guy is going to be at a slight disadvantage with the weight ratio, as he is going to be the one pulling the extra 120 lbs of sexy Jessica Alba.
The Mustang is a beautiful design, but the Camaro’s styling takes the retro look to a whole new level of classic futurism. It is less angular, more meaty and oozes testosterone at every angle you look at it.
Okay, so the lone mustang driver is revving pumping his “drive by wire” throttle to the tune of 4.6 liters and 300 horsepower. The Camaro drops the hammer of its rumored 6.0 liter power plant and that will be about all she wrote for the Mustang…

But wait… don’t you think that Ford has already thought of this? Of course they have…
We cannot expect the Pony to be running at a paltry 300 horsepower when the Camaro is rumored to be closer to 400.
Leaving out the special editions (Shelby GT 500, COPO Camaro-we can only hope), Ford is probably cooking up something to give Chevy a run for its money and some folks are saying that it just might be the Boss 290 5.4 liter Australian iron block.
The Boss would be rated at around 390 normal aspiration… we are talking a drivers race here. Especially considering that the right tires, gearing and suspension set-up could give either one of them the edge.
But for the laymen and gas conscience… the stoplight could be but a whole different story. The V-6 Mustang right now is running at 210 horsepower, with probably no big changes in sight. The V-6 Camaro however will most likely adapt their Malibu’s 6, with 240 smooth revving horses.
While Ford is racing to beat the Camaro’s top engine, I hope they do not forget that over 60 to 70% of their sales are going to come from the tame and affordable 6… so maybe they ought to take a second glance at their aging 4.o and consider dropping in a smoother version with some kick!
So where does this leave us?
On the fence… It looks like a battle is brewing between the 2009 Camaro vs. the Mustang and there does not appear to be a clear winner, which makes this next years design decisions by these rival companies crucial for their survival.
