La FILU: The lowdown on this year’s book fair
Sunday, September 23rd, 2007For those of you who are in Xalapa, I encourage you to attend the Feria Internacional del Libro Universitario (FILU), that is, the book fair organized by the Universidad Veracruzana.
This year’s book fair is dedicated to Sergio Galindo, a Mexican novelist and short story writer from our very own Xalapa. He was also the founder of the Veracruz University Press and the literary journal La palabra y el hombre, of which my husband, Luis Heredia, is now editor.
This year, there are a number of events, conferences and forums mainly focusing on the future of the book in the digital era. Elena Poniatowska and Sergio Pitol are both making appearances this year. Here are a few events to watch out for:
- Literary publications from all across Latin America will be present at the Encuentro de Revistas Culturales de América, going from Thursday to Friday.
- I will be participating in a conference tomorrow, September 24, at 6:00 pm on the future of books in the digital era.
- Los Cuadernos de La palabra will be presented on September 29 at 1:00.
- There will also be a special presentation dedicated to La palabra y el hombre on September 25 at 5:00.
The fair is taking place this year at the Museo de transporte. There are a number of buses leaving from downtown to make getting there as convenient as possible. For more information, check out the University’s web page here.
