Halloween Special: EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon)

Those of you who have watched the television show, “Ghost Hunters” undoubtedly have heard the phrase EVP and the strange voices that can be heard along with this phenomenon. For those of you who are not familiar, EVP is the technique used by paranormal investigators, where a sensitive recorder is used to pull sound waves that may not necessarily be audible to the human ear.
There is a lot of critics that claim that EVP is nothing more than alterations in the air current and/or natural sounds in the environment that people interpret as voices. This may often be the case, but the most unexplained voice patterns are long statements and answers to questions.
Whether you believe or not, the evidence that has been collected is extremely interesting to say the least. I would say that I am a skeptic and would not claim this evidence proves anything… but I will say that it has opened the door for me to consider its possibilities. Here are a few examples of evidence that has been uncovered:
The movie “White Noise” is said to have some actual footage from a session that a woman named Sarah Estep, recorded while visiting an old lighthouse.
This is an example of such a question asked by Sarah during her encounters, “Were you aware that I was on the porch last evening when I went out there?” and was answered with, “I found you there.”
Unfortunately, ghostly encounters are not always as appropriate as we would all like. One of the best EVP stories I have ever heard on a disrespectful recording was from a young woman living in an apartment by the name of Athenia.
She had been experiencing strange events and was hearing a muffled voice from the white noise on her television. She turned on her recorder and sat back on the couch. She had unbuttoned the front of her pants due to a stomach ache.
When she listened back through the recording she heard a faint whisper say, “Take your f#@$%&! pants off.” The download can be found here on the About.com Paranormal Phenomena site.
While some recordings are very hard to make out others, called Class A, are very distinct and frightenly audible. Such as this example recorded in a quiet bedroom that says, “We are not here to hurt you.”
Real or not… you be the judge!
